2013 King Island show great success

The 2013 King Island show was again a great success for the King Island Renewable Energy Integration Project (KIREIP) team, providing the opportunity to speak to locals about the Smart Grid project.

The Hydro Tasmania KIREIP marquee provided a bit of shade for Kind Island locals on a sunny day at the show. Locals spoke to Mike Ross, Smart Grid project manager, and Jen McDonnell Community Engagement Manager about how the Smart Grid works and what it can provide to those participating in the trial.

Many were interested in the technology on display. A smart switch for fuse boxes and communications equipment served as an example of what would be installed at the houses of those participating in the Smart Grid trial.

Outside the marquee was another piece of technology which benefits from the Smart Grid – Hydro Tasmania’s electric vehicle. The charge station at the King Island Advanced Hybrid Power Station only charges the car when excess wind power is available.
