Smart Grid and community support

The Smart Grid Project is a part of KIRIEP, the aim of this project is to demonstrate how effective a smart grid can be in enabling an increased use of renewable energy. Download the Smart Grid Information Pack ( Smart Grid Information flyer (PDF 0.8 MB), Smart Grid Question and Answer Sheet and a Sign up form and Term and Conditions) here. For more information or to have a Smart Grid Information Pack sent to you please contact us.

To help make the demonstration a success we need to get a big group of King Islanders together who are willing to help us. So to help you make up your mind to participate we are offering the following:

  • A one off $100 payment upon successful installation of smart grid equipment in your house
  • A $50 donation will go towards a local community group. This way everyone in the King Island community has the opportunity to benefit from the smart grid project. More information on the eligible clubs and groups is below
  • You will get access to your power consumption data. Find out if your electric hot water system is operating efficiently and save money.
  • Receive free energy efficiency information.
  • Reduce King Island’s reliance on imported diesel. Be part of continuing to build King Island’s clean and green brand.
  • Reduce blackouts - increase the reliability of energy supply.
  • Free installation and equipment provided for length of the trial (it would normally cost around $200)
